Traveling East

Our 8 hour return trip to Okotoks from Osoyoos turned into a 9 1/2 hour journey. The weather was so good it was nice to be outside for that time.

We pack-up and left NKMIP RV 8 AM, which was our usual departure time, but when we got stuck in the traffic going over the big bridge in Kelowna we last about a half hour.

All of the Okanogan Valley was warm and sunny. Then at Sicamous the journey through the mountains began. Roads were good and traffic was constant.

We cleared all the snow sheds and were into Glacier National Park when a road crewman stopped us and said “Get over to the right as close to the concrete barrier as we can. As close as possible, I have to make three rows. You might as well get comfortable we'll be and hour doing avalanche control.”

An hour was about right. We were the first one he stopped after letting the group before us go through. So we made ourselves comfortable with a front row sit to the action. This is when my imagination kicked in ...

Of course that didn't happen, but we were able to see and hear the cannon they used. We did see one of the cornices as it moved. Very small and a long way up.

The rest of the trip went as expected. We even lost another hour by just crossing into Alberta. We pulled into Country Lane Estates at about 9:30 PM and park in the front paring lot for the night.

So until next time remember to “Discover It and Live It”.
