Brookgreen Garden

Brookgreen Garden and Georgetown South Carolina
(February 23, 2013)

We were up at 6:00am and walked to Myrtle Beach to get pictures of the sun raise. We were the first ones there, however it did not take long for more people to arrive. The sun raise was not that spectacular but it was nice to be out at that hour. It took the sleep out of my eyes. On our return we stopped at Friendly's for breakfast.

We returned to the RV and got ready for a sight-seeing trip.

We drove to Pawleys Island. It is a small, non-commercial resort island, four miles long and a quarter mile wide, situated on the coast of South Carolina, 12 miles north of historic Georgetown and 20 miles south of Myrtle Beach. It has a 300 year old history of shipwrecks and ghosts, pirates and heroism. There were centuries-old summer homes of the plantation owners.

We then drove south on #17 to Brookgreen Gardens http://www.brookgreen.org/ and used the entrance pass that Jacqui gave us.

In 1931, Archer and Anna Hyatt Huntington founded Brookgreen Gardens, a non-profit garden museum, to preserve the native flora and fauna and display objects of art within that natural setting.

Today, Brookgreen Gardens is a National Historic Landmark with the most significant collection of figurative sculpture in an outdoor setting by American artists in the world.

Later in the day we drove down to Georgetown but that's another post.

Until next time "Discover it and Live It"
